With over 50 stories published in the last two years and nominations for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net, "short story master" DiCicco weaves his tales into an auspicious debut collection. Through his minimalist style, DiCicco explores the ties that define us - the relationships between fathers and sons, husbands and wives, and men and their own fear. He navigates the human condition with a fresh voice, pulling you through each story with a sense of urgency and excitement, and expertly balancing the reader's sense of delight and despair. Featuring 11 never-before-seen stories, So My Mother, She Lives in the Clouds propels DiCicco into the spotlight as the next major voice in indie fiction.

This collection is risky. Risky in that DiCicco isn't necessarily writing for an audience, but for the sake of the story and for the sake of telling it well. Because of this, the reader is left wanting more, or wanting less, or wanting something different--but it's always exactly what is called for. DiCicco doesn't seem to care whether his stories make sense or not, and because of that the reader is taken far beyond what other writers are willing to share. They are ghost stories and fantasies, and realistic as much as they are magical. In short, DiCicco's first collection explores very knowable feelings in very unknowable ways. It's well worth the risk.

So My Mother She Lives in the Clouds Christopher D DiCicco 9780996746502 Books Reviews
As the Back Matter states, DiCicco is the "short story master" in every which way. It would be an understatement to rate this as 5 stars.
If you love fiction, writing, dragons, and strange family issues -- this is the book for you.
This is a book that will leave you speechless after each story. I had to sit back and just obsorb the incrediable words the author had laid out before I could move on to the next story. The stories connect to the deepest parts of you, perhaps even as deep as your soul. I'd like to thanks the author, it really did connect deeply with me.
In the space and time of each of his short stories, DiCicco masterfully immerses the reader in the heart and soul of his characters. Reading each, you are quickly placed in the story - placed into the characters themselves. Quite a ride!
Beautifully written and incredibly creative.
Strange stories...remind me of Barry Hannah.
DiCicco's collection of stories is weird, daring, and unconventional. He gracefully takes the reader to places they haven't gone before and we are left delighted and sometimes dizzy from the ride in all the best possible ways. These stories are at the same time maddening and inspiring and I can't wait to see what DiCicco (the most truly original author I've read in a long time) has in store for us with his next book.
This collection reminds me of Flannery O'Connor short-stories in that when you begin it's just a story, moving along down the down the road, taking in the scenery, and then it all erupts. But every time, I don't see it coming. The excitement occurs in the eruption, but the beauty, the insight, the reasoning, comes in at the end. These are redemptive stories. They don’t all end peaceful and serene, some end in the dark. But in the dark, deep, questions arise. Some easy, some hard but mostly unanswerable questions are brought forth and the reader will find these questions being lit up on the page. It’s when these questions are bright, it’s when DiCicco narrows in on a moment, a thought, an experience, the letters become red hot. There are phrases and lines in this book that are seared into my mind. It’s a beautiful collection of stories.
This collection is risky. Risky in that DiCicco isn't necessarily writing for an audience, but for the sake of the story and for the sake of telling it well. Because of this, the reader is left wanting more, or wanting less, or wanting something different--but it's always exactly what is called for.
